It appears that Bressingham is very keen to see their 6233 Duchess of Sutherland locomotive on the main line again and are prepared to loan it to us.
We are now planning a meeting with Bressingham to draw up plans for 2010.

Apparently they've tried out the Oliver Cromwell on the track, but it kept breaking down. However I am told that it is likely to be running properly next year. (I was told this in 2006). It may just put on a small apearance for this year's anniversary, but certainly not anything like what was originally planned.
If anyone knows more, please tell us. We would really like to get this trip underway.

Plans are now in place to run an engine in 2010. By then we should hopefully have the choice of the Flying Scotsman or the Oliver Cromwell. We may consider a trip to Durham as an alternative to York. Watch this space.

The engine is still not ready and won't be until at least July. We are now awaiting available dates to see if we can organise this event later in the year. Of course, we are all dreadfully sorry to hear this news.
2nd February, 2008
Plans have been in place for two years for this journey on the 14th June, 2008 and and the present moment we are awaiting final confirmation of our booking from the National Railway Museum.
We understand the restoration is now complete and that she will be out and about to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her journey as the last commercial steam train to be run by British Rail.
Outward journey from Bury St Edmunds to York will leave at around 8am with return from York pulled by the Royal diesel engine leaving York around 7pm.
We hope to have confirmation any day now. Tickets will be advertised on this website, the Bury Free Press and the East Anglian Daily Times. Notification will also be sent to railway enthusiast magazines.
St Mary's Choir will be singing Evensong at York Minster that day.
